Alexander House

Project status: Current

Work with local businesses to develop large scale public art piece.

Project Overview

Following up on articles in Swindon Link magazine, the owners of Alexander House on Fleming Way (Lenta Business Centres) decided that it would be good to have a public art piece created on the back of their huge office block. Forward Swindon created a public competition, with Link, and asked the public to submit ideas. A fantastic array of images came forward and winners were selected.

Inspired by the winning entries, Forward Swindon developed an idea to turn the back of the building into a roadway, complete with markings, roundabouts and cars! The theme of the project was based around Swindon icons - and was to include the pattern of the Magic Roundabout, Minis (the panels of which are made in Swindon) and a speed camera to celebrate the fact that Swindon was the first town to stop using them. A slightly ammended project has now been granted planning permission, and Lenta have appointed a contractor to do the work. BMW have very kindly offered use of two fibre glass cars, and work will get under way when the weather is a bit more stable.
