MAKING SWINDON’S HERITAGE WORK HARDER

Swindon has a unique, world-class, railway heritage quarter and historic Old Town. These areas hold major opportunities and are the key to Swindon’s future success. Bringing assets like the Carriage Works and the Mechanics Institute back into use, making improvements to the wider Railway Village Conservation Area and its public realm, will intensify Swindon’s identity as a great place to live, work and visit.

Making Swindon’s heritage work harder is one of the key objects in Forward Swindon’s Delivery Plan. Our plans for The Carriage Works will see new ‘arts and innovation’ workspaces created that will bring back to life one of the UK’s most historic industrial buildings, while we are helping finalise plans for the transformation of the Corn Exchange in Old Town. We are also spending money improving smaller historic shops on Faringdon Road.
