An inclusive, safe and high-quality environment.

Swindon station regeneration and improvements to Wellington Street, New Bridge Square at the heart of the Tri-Centre and the underpass beneath Fleming Way will create a fantastic first impression of Swindon.

Swindon Station Regeneration

Swindon is one of only three stations to benefit from comprehensive redevelopment, as identified in the UK Government’s Rail Estate Regeneration Initiative.

Collaboratively with Network Rail, plans are in progress to masterplan the multi million-pound investment required to transform the station and the surrounding under-utilised land into a vibrant railway village with residential, office, retail and leisure investment.

Alongside a state of the art transport interchange, Swindon station has the potential to create nearly 500 new homes, 500 new jobs and nearly £400 million of inward investment to support the realisation of the Swindon Town Centre Masterplan.

Public Realm

The priority is to transform vital elements of the centre’s public realm using Council funding, creating high quality, safe, secure and attractive walking and cycling routes connecting the railway station to the town centre.

The first phase of public realm improvements will focus on Wellington Street to improve the walking environment from the station to the Tri Centre, which borders the Kimmerfields site.

Subsequent phases will improve public realm between the Kimmerfields site and the town centre, including improvements to the underpass area.
