A thriving, buzzing, successful town centre that provides a diverse range of retail, leisure, cultural and commercial experiences in a high quality, safe environment is absolutely vital to the economic future of Swindon.  Not only does it provide new jobs within its shops and offices but it strengthens confidence throughout the whole town and plays a major part in creating a positive image that attracts new business and their employees.  That's why the development of the town centre here is recognised as a key priority.

Forward Swindon is leading the regeneration on behalf of Swindon Borough Council.  We have property, regeneration and project management skills and supplement these with a range of external expertise that design and deliver projects to transform the centre. 

A new Masterplan for the town centre

Critical to any successful long term regeneration effort is having a clear framework, or master plan, that sets out an overall ambition and identifies key objectives that will have maximum impact.  It is widely agreed that Swindon needs a new spatial framework for the town centre and Forward Swindon has been asked to lead the process of developing this new plan.  We want this to be a process that results in a masterplan that stakeholders in the regeneration process feel they own, so we are currently preparing to lead such a process in the autumn of 2011, with the master plan being finalised by the end of the year.  For further details please contact Ian Piper, or Chris Hitchings.
